The Portuguese guitar currently has two models in wide use in Portuguese music. The Coimbra model is easily told apart from the Lisbon model by the shape of its body and head. Seen from the front, its soundbox is more elongated (pear-shaped) than the Lisbon one, and its head ends in a “teardrop”.

Compared with the Lisbon model, this guitar also has a string length 30 mm longer. Its history and, above all, its unique sound have made it a concert instrument appreciated all over the world.

The most common build configurations are:

Top Basswood, Spruce
Back and sides Walnut, Rosewood
Neck Mahogany
Fingerboard Panga Panga, Rosewood, Ebony
Tuning mechanism Portuguese fan tuners

Every instrument is set up in our workshop for its player. Get in touch or visit us at Rua de Santana, 37, Porto.
