The Braguinha (also known as Machete) is a traditional instrument of Madeira. It is thought to descend from the Cavaquinho and to have later given rise to other cavaquinhos around the world.
It has 4 courses of strings and a fingerboard raised over the top, which easily sets it apart from its ancestor. Small (about 50 cm long) and easy to carry, it has travelled to every corner of the world.
The most common build configurations are:
| Top | Basswood, Spruce |
| Back and sides | Mahogany, Cherry, Sycamore, Rosewood |
| Neck | Poplar, Mahogany, Cedar |
| Fingerboard | Panga Panga, Rosewood, Ebony |
| Tuning mechanism | Wooden pegs, machine heads |
Every instrument is set up in our workshop for its player. Get in touch or visit us at Rua de Santana, 37, Porto.
